TikTok Star Luna Martinez Breaks Platform Records with 24-Hour Live Stream Fundraiser
TikTok sensation Luna Martinez has officially shattered multiple platform records after completing an unprecedented 24-hour live stream that raised over $3.2 million for ocean cleanup initiatives. The 22-year-old content creator, known for her environmental activism and viral dance videos, captivated audiences worldwide as her viewer count peaked at 8.7 million concurrent users – the highest ever recorded for a single TikTok Live session.
Martinez, who boasts 47 million followers across her social platforms, announced the ambitious fundraising challenge last week with a simple promise: "If we can clean the oceans together, we can dance together." What started as a modest goal of $100,000 quickly escalated as celebrities, fellow creators, and fans rallied behind the cause.
"I literally can't feel my legs right now, but seeing those donation numbers climb was pure adrenaline," Martinez said during her emotional stream finale early Tuesday morning. "This proves that Gen Z isn't just about trends – we're about change."
The marathon broadcast featured surprise appearances from A-list celebrities including Zendaya, who donated $50,000 live on camera, and environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who joined virtually from Sweden to discuss ocean conservation. Music superstars Bad Bunny and Olivia Rodrigo also made surprise cameos, with Rodrigo performing an acoustic version of her latest single exclusively for Martinez's audience.
TikTok's parent company confirmed that Martinez's stream broke three platform records: longest continuous live broadcast by a single creator, highest concurrent viewership, and largest charitable donation total generated through the platform. The previous record holder was gaming creator ZephyrPlays, whose 18-hour charity stream in 2025 raised $1.8 million for children's hospitals.
"Luna represents everything we love about the creator economy," said Sarah Chen, TikTok's Director of Creator Relations. "She's proven that authentic passion combined with platform reach can create real-world impact."
The funds raised will be distributed among three ocean conservation organizations: The Ocean Cleanup, Surfrider Foundation, and Marine Conservation Institute. Martinez partnered with transparency platform CharityTracker to ensure donors can follow exactly how their contributions are used.
Throughout the 24-hour stream, Martinez maintained energy by rotating between dancing, interviewing guests, reacting to fan videos, and sharing educational content about marine pollution. Her most viral moment came at hour 16 when she attempted to recreate every major TikTok dance trend from 2024 in a single sequence, resulting in a hilarious compilation that has already garnered 23 million views as a separate post.
This isn't Martinez's first foray into activism-meets-entertainment. Her "Plastic-Free Dance Challenge" last year inspired over 2 million users to showcase eco-friendly lifestyle swaps through choreographed videos.
